• Occupation: agricultural labourer, at the time of the census in April 1851, Cosby, Leics. ²⁶⁷ He was then living there with his wife and three children.

• Occupation: Midland Railway servant, at the time of the census in April 1861, Cosby, Leics. ²⁶⁸ He was then living there with his wife, three children and a grand-daughter.

• Occupation: railway labourer, at the time of the census in April 1871. ²⁶⁹ He was then living at Victoria Terrace, Kettering, Northants with his wife, two daughters and a grand-daughter.

• Occupation: plate layer, at the time of the census in April 1881, Cosby, Leics. ²⁷⁰ He was then visiting his married daughter Lucy and her family.

Samuel married Caroline Gee, daughter of George Gee and Mary *Unknown, on 17 Aug 1836 in Cosby, Leics.²⁵⁹ (Caroline Gee was born circa 1815 in Cosby, Leics ^{271,272,273,274} and was baptised on 26 Mar 1815 in Cosby, Leics ²⁷⁵.)
